Inflammation of the prostate is the most common disease in men over 40, second only in rare cases to heart disease.When a person is diagnosed, a natural question arises – where does this disease actually come from?
There are many causes of prostatitis in men; it is almost impossible to pinpoint the factors that influence the development of the pathology in a given patient.However, some factors, such as poor lifestyle and alcohol abuse, can significantly increase the risk of developing the disease.
Another characteristic of the disease is the influence of these causes.Some of them can cause lesions immediately, while others affect the male body for several years, being detected only after 40-45 years in the first stages of prostatitis.
In general, all causes of prostatitis are divided according to the form of the disease.It can be bacterial or non-bacterial (regardless of whether infection is present).
Nonbacterial causes of prostatitis
It is not just the development of infection that leads to the emergence of disease.The onset of pathology may also be triggered by:
- Improper prostate structure, causing prostate compression;
- Deterioration of general blood circulation in the pelvic organs;
- Reduced testosterone levels;
- Frequent perineal injuries and too strenuous physical activities lead to muscle strains;
- Unstable sexual life and interruption of sexual intercourse;
- Too much sexual activity prevents the body from recovering properly;
- Smoking, drinking, and taking drugs, which will definitely lead to a decrease in effectiveness;
- Too little daily activity can lead to congestion and constipation;
- Frequent hypothermia, stress, and nervousness.
Clinical tests have confirmed that the occurrence of prostatitis is often caused by malnutrition, poor food quality, and excessive levels of food additives and flavor enhancers.
Bacterial prostatitis: pathological causes
Causes of a bacterial nature include several factors in the development of the disease:
- Immunity is too weak, which may be caused by incorrect lifestyle;
- Infectious genitourinary disorders (bacteria entering the prostate from the bladder);
- STDs.Most commonly characterized by young adults who do not use barrier contraception;
- Intestinal diseases.Microorganisms can easily enter the prostate from the gut, "walking through it."
As age increases, the causes become more numerous and the body's defenses weaken, so the disease usually develops after the age of 40-45.
Main symptoms of male prostatitis
There are 3 stages of prostatitis. The first symptoms are obvious in the early stages of the disease, while the second stage can no longer be ignored:
- The micturition process is disrupted, becomes more frequent, the pressure weakens, and a drip-voiding syndrome is observed;
- Severe pain begins in the perineum, scrotum, and lower abdomen;
- Sexual dysfunction occurs and discomfort occurs during ejaculation.
Acute prostatitis requires immediate treatment and its symptoms vary slightly:
- Due to the rapid development of the inflammatory process, the body temperature may increase, and fever and chills may appear simultaneously;
- Pain radiates to the head, muscles, joints and even the waist;
- Burning, swelling, and temperature increase in the perineum;
- Pain or discomfort in the perineum;
- Burning sensation and pain when urinating, urine becomes darker, and blood may even be visible;
- Urine may leak from your urethra when you don't want to go to the toilet.
Similar symptoms, but less severe, are characteristic of chronic prostatitis.After 40 years it is necessary to undergo regular examinations by a doctor, since there are also asymptomatic forms of the pathology.
How are different forms of prostatitis treated?
There are many ways to treat prostatitis, but not all of them require serious surgery.The earlier the disease is detected, the more gentle treatment options can be used.
drug treatment
To treat prostatitis, antibiotics (bacterial form) are used as well as alpha-blockers, which are natural substances that strengthen immunity and eliminate inflammation.Medications to restore blood circulation are also used.There are many medications out there, so there will always be something suited to specific male physical characteristics.You cannot choose your own medications at the pharmacy; you should always rely on your doctor's prescription.
surgical intervention
Radical treatments are rarely used, more often to eliminate acute prostatitis or advanced forms of the disease:
- Transurethral resection - A special instrument is inserted into the urethra to remove part of the prostate and relieve pressure on the urethra.It is performed without intervening in the abdominal cavity;
- A prostatectomy is a surgery performed through the abdominal cavity to eliminate a very enlarged prostate.
non-surgical methods
Prostatitis can be treated in other ways.Not all treatments are pleasant, but the recovery period after surgery only takes a few days, 2-3 weeks at most, and the risk of complications is minimized:
- Thermal method – elimination using high temperatures;
- Ultrasound therapy;
- Freeze destruction – removal with liquid nitrogen;
- Laser therapy – using laser light to break up tumors;
- Magnetic laser enhancement method – uses magnets and lasers to improve blood circulation and quickly restore damaged tissue;
- Balloon urethrodilation – A catheter with a balloon on the end is inserted into the urethra.
Methods such as prostate massage, herbal medicine, and reflexology are also used for treatment.There are even some unusual methods of influence, such as using live bees and leeches to eliminate diseases.And they are very effective!
